Customers Panics As CBN Orders, Opay, palmpay, Kuda Bank, Other Fintech Firms To Suspend Onboarding New Customers

  Some bank customers have reportedly expressed panic following the decision of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to ban mobile money operators including fintech firms from onboarding new customers. The affected fintechs—OPay, Palmpay, Kuda Bank, and Moniepoint—have been linked to allegations of accounts being used for illicit foreign exchange transactions. Representatives from two of the companies confirmed to   Nairametrics that the CBN’s order is related to these allegations. The CBN’s move, according to Nairametrics , was linked to an ongoing audit of the Know-Your-Customer process of the fintechs, which have been under scrutiny in recent months over concerns around money laundering and terrorism financing. JAMB: How to check UTME results through phone, portal

  The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, on Monday released the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME results. The Registrar of JAMB, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, made the announcement in a press conference in Abjua. He said a total of 1,989,668 candidates registered for the examination, representing 24.7 per cent higher than the figure for the year 2023. The Registrar noted that of the 1,989,668 registered, 1,904,189 were present and verified, 2,899 were present but unverified and 80,810 were absent. Candidates are to check their results by 7 a.m. on Tuesday. Registrar of JAMB, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, announced this on Monday at a news conference in Abuja, saying the figure is out of 1,904,109 sat for the examination while 80,810 were absent. The 2024 UTME exercise which started on Friday 19th April, 2024, ended on Monday, 29th April, 2024. Oloyede disclosed that 1,989,668 candidates registered for the examinations held in 118 towns in 774 Computer Based Test Centres (CBT). He explained that 64,624 results were under investigation for various reasons such as verification (2,896), procedural investigations(4,594), and prima facie established examination misconduct (78).   Suleja prison: Security operatives begin manhunt for escaped inmates   Jerry Wright-Ukwu April 26, 2024 The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has initiated a search for 109 out of 119 inmates who exploited the collapse of the perimeter fence of the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Suleja, Niger State, to escape from custody during heavy rainfall on Wednesday night. According to a statement by the NCoS spokesperson, AS Duza, the incident occurred when the prison’s perimeter fence collapsed due to the prolonged and intense rainfall on Wednesday night, causing damage to the custodial facility and surrounding structures. He said while 10 of the escaped inmates have  been recaptured , efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the remaining fugitives.  According to him, the NCoS has activated its recapturing mechanisms and is collaborating with other security agencies to track  down  the fleeing inmates.
