Thousands of women from Bende Local
Government Area of Abia state, south east Nigeria, stormed the
government house Umuahia, on Wednesday protesting the destruction of
their farm lands by herdsmen.
The peaceful march came the same day a similar protest took place in Makurdi, the Benue state capital.
Represented by his principal secretary,
Emma Nwabuko, governor Okezie Ikpeazu said the situation called for
urgent attention by the federal government, pointing out that the
anti-grazing bill before the senate, was the antidote that will bring
lasting solution to the problem.
The women leader, Comfort Nwachukwu,
lamented that their crops were always ravaged by cows, while some of
their kinsmen have been attacked by the herdsmen.
