President Buhari Restates His Administration's Determination To Providing A Functional And Efficient Rail System

President Muhammadu Buhari has restated his administration's determination to providing a functional and efficient rail system in Nigeria.

The President gave the reassurance on Thursday while commissioning additional locomotives and passenger coaches for the Abuja-Kaduna standard gauge rail line at the Nigerian Rail corporation in Rigasa, Kaduna State.

President Buhari reassured Nigerians that his administration remains committed to linking all major commercial and production centres as well as state capitals with railway systems as a way of bringing about rapid socio-economic development and improving the quality of life of the citizens and promoting national integration.

Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi said the acquisition of additional locomotives and coaches for the Abuja- Rail line became necessary to accommodate the increasing number of passengers plying that route on a daily basis.

Amaechi noted that the inclusion of two more locomotives and ten coaches into the fleet would also put an end to reported cases of Ticket Racketeering at the Abuja-Kaduna rail station.

President Buhari later commissioned the Kaduna Inland Dry Port which he described as a strategic facility that will facilitate trade, create employment and contribute immensely to government's ease of doing bussiness initiative.

An application filed by former President Goodluck Jonathan before the Federal High Court in Abuja has revealed further reasons why he wants to be excused from appearing as a witness in defence of a former National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Olisa Metuh.
